Drabble: Temptation
A little something I came up with today on the way to work.

Title: Temptation (drabble)
Fandom: Torchwood/Doctor Who
Author: [info]unfeathered
Character: Jack Harkness
Genre: Gen
Spoilers: Last of the Time Lords
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Summary: There are some things that need to be remembered.

The retcon’s sitting there on his desk, looking seductive and oh so tempting. But Jack needs to remember.

He needs to remember there’s a man called the Master who apparently has a very nasty tendency to come back from the dead.

He needs to remember how good it feels to be back with his team after that year on the Valiant; how lucky he is to have them.

And he needs to remember the Doctor, because it might be another hundred and forty years before he sees him again and until then the memories, however painful, are all he has.

Awwwwwwwww...

I imagine anyone would be tempted to retcon that year away. And I sure wouldn't count the Master out, funeral pyre or no funeral pyre.

Wow, you lot are quick! - I post just before I leave work, get home an hour later and I already have five comments on this!!!

I imagine anyone would be tempted to retcon that year away.

It hadn't occurred to me till today, but - hell, yeah!

And I sure wouldn't count the Master out, funeral pyre or no funeral pyre.

Definitely not. And I'm sure Jack's been doing his research on the Master :-)

Oh my yes. Definitely. I can just imagine how tempting it would be, and how much he would/wouldn't want it.

And the ending? ouch. Love it. *mems*

Thank you :-)

This actually came about because of you mentioning retcon in your spider drabble - I tend to forget about it but it made me think what else Jack might use it for...

Good thing our hero's made of stern stuff :-)

Oh, Jack. I'll just go along with what everyone else has said, and say that I can certainly see the temptation, and I can certainly see all of the reasons why he wouldn't. I love all of his reasons why he needs to remember.

Thank you! :-)

I can just imagine him sitting there at his desk, night after night, not reconning himself...

Everybody else already said what I would have said, so, yeah. It rings very true. And the last paragraph, wah!

and it's not remotely as if we have a tendency to whump the poor dear just to bring it out in him...

*snort* Not at all.

*hides whumped!Jack under desk*

I did not whump him! (well, not this time)

RTD did that.

I'm just dealing with the after-effects! *g*

Jack--pre-whumped for your convenience!

(I just love that word. Whump whump whump. Ahem.)

I was referring more to the tendency of fic writers to whump him, or at least to explore the areas where you'd reasonably expect him to have problems after what RTD did to him.

I have a couple of things in mind (not coming out at the moment, unfortunately) which ignore parts of canon but whump him in different ways. Wonder what psychological twist makes that happen. You always hurt the ones you love.

LOL - great definition of Jack!

I know you were :-)

You always hurt the ones you love.

And we adore Jack Harkness *g*

No, of course not. We wouldn't do that. *g*

the Master who apparently has a very nasty tendency to come back from the dead

Boy does he ever. I do so like the way your brain works *g*

Thank you!

And you just know we'll be seeing more of the Master at some point - and the Doctor and Jack know it too... *g*
